Last week Thursday was a big day in Science. My Facebook feed got inundated with news posts about the first photographs ever captured of a black hole . If that was not you, I am a homeschool mom, and we love geeking about those kind of things. It was a big day indeed, scientists have long known about the existence of a black hole in space, but had not been able to get a picture of it and even seen it for real. Building the Foundation for Teaching a Child to Read

Teaching our children to read is a topic that I often see discussed among parents. Naturally, we all want our children to be able to read and preferably read well. To that end, we often look for ways that will help us teach them to master the written word. I am here to tell you that there are no magic solutions to it, but we can definitely prepare our children for the task, and stack the odds in their favor. The key to having a reader is to read to your child as many books as you can and as often as you can. Research has shown that reading to your baby, toddler, and preschooler do wonders in preparing the terrain to teaching your child to read. As a matter of fact, sometimes, the child learns how to read on his own just by constantly being read to. Even if your child does not master the art of reading early on, a love for books and printed words will have been inculcated, and your child will be well on his way to be a lifelong learner.
